WASTELANDS - An Australian B-grade, Punk Rock, Street Trash online radio show Hosted by long time partners in slime Adam (085c3n3) Obscene and Mark-O -Mark, pondering punk oddities, trashy treasures, street levelness, life, culture and stuff.

Wastelands Radio Show - Episode 18 - 2020 Texas Gladiators

Episode 18

2020 Texas Gladiators

In this Episode Adam and Mark discuss 2020 Texas Gladiators, directed by none other than top sleaze/horror master Joe D'Amato, Starring Al Cliver, Al Yamanouchi & Sabrina Siani. Their main aim is to see if D’mata was a clairvoyant and how close his 1983 prediction was of the state of America in 2020.

In Texas in 2020, degenerate villains raid a monastery in which pretty Maida took refuge, when five roving Rangers show up. The battle-hardened men quickly succeed in repelling the attackers and restoring order. However, during the incident, one of her saviours named Catch Dog falls into disgrace as he tries to rape Maida. He is eventually rejected by his comrades. Later, Ranger Nexus separates from his friends, taking Maida with him. Five years later, Nexus and Maida live with their little daughter a seemingly safe life in the settlement of Free Town. In addition to basic services, the community operates a power plant and uranium mine. The village's energy reserves soon lure in dark outlaws. One day, disaster strikes as Catch Dog manages to bring down Free Town with his gang. Catch Dog himself acts on behalf of the "Black One", a totalitarian ruler who subjugates the population with his thugs. In an attempt to resist, Nexus dies. The able-bodied men are enslaved and used as labourers in the uranium production, the women are sold to different bars in the area. At some point, the three remaining Rangers meet Maida and set her free from her master, a gambler. The three encounter and manage to enlist the help of an indigenous tribe. Ultimately, the Rangers and the recruited warriors succeed in taking back Free Town. The regime of terror is overthrown. Both Catch Dog and Black One are killed, and in the midst of combat, also one of the Ranger succumbs to his injuries. In the end, Maida and her daughter can expect a happier future. The two remaining Rangers leave.

Factoids

  • In a 1996 interview, D'Amato stated that Eastman "didn't feel confident enough in the action scenes and so I dealt with those, leaving him to the direction of the actors. B

  • D'Amato received directing credit, although Eastman directed most of the dialogue scenes according to D'Amato

  • Eastman also stated in 1996, that "These (post-atomic) films, which were made in the wake of the various Mad Max movies, were decidedly crummy. The set designs were poor....and the genre met a swift and well-deserved death. I only wrote these awful movies for financial reasons.... no attempt at originality was made at all."

The film has been released under several titles, including

·       Anno 2020: I Gladiatori del Futuro( lit. Year 2020 Gladiators of the Future),

·       Futoro2020: Freedom Fighters

·       2020: The Rangers of Texas and Sudden Death

Wastelands Radio Show - Episode 16 – Metalsploitation - Trick or Treat

WASTELANDS - An Australian B-grade, Punk Rock, Street Trash online radio show exploring the vast undiscovered cultural wastelands as a creative pursuit. Hosted by long time partners in slime Adam (085c3n3) Obscene and Mark-O -Mark, pondering punk oddities, trashy treasures, street levelness, life, culture and stuff.

Wastelands Radio Show - Episode 16 – Metalsploitation - Trick or Treat

Episode 16

Metalsploitation - Trick or Treat

In this episode Adam and Mark turn their attention to the 1986 Metalsploitation masterpiece – Trick or Treat. Starring Skippy of Family Ties and featuring special guest appearances by rock superstars Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne and a dynamic heavy metal soundtrack by Fastway. Listen in as they explain why they believe Trick or Treat a metal horror classic.

A semi-outcast high school kid and metal head Eddie Weinbauer (Marc Price - Family Ties -Skippy) is bullied by the popular crowd and is compelled to get revenge. After the death of his heavy metal idol Sammi Curr (Tony Fields- former Solid Gold Dancer) a devastated Eddie, discovers he can enlists the aid of the dead satanic rock star, through the backmasking a demo of Curr's unleased album. But as Hallowe'en night approaches shit gets outta hand and Eddie is the only one that can stop Sammi from making a satanic comeback from beyond the grave. A coming-of-age metalsploitation flick that mixes elements of "Christine" (1983), "Carrie" (1976) and the first Nightmare on elm street movies, but it strangely never attained the popularity of those films, which still doesn’t explains why there was never a sequel.

Trick Or Treat is a fine example of Hollywood jumping on the "backwards messages in metal music" bandwagon that Tipper Gore and her Washington Wives kick-started the satanic panic in the mid-'80.

This is a great movie if viewed in the proper context - It was meant to be a parody of teen-horror-devil-worship movies (and the '80s saw plenty of them) it is a particular stand out in the metalsploitation genre as it has great cameos by Gene Simmons and Ozzy.

Highlights

  • All songs in the movie are performed by the band "Fastway" which was formed by - Motorhead Guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke, and bassist Pete Way, formerly of UFO.and current "Flogging Molly" vocalist Dave King.

  • Features - A brief clip with Ozzy Osbourne as Rev. Aaron Gilstrom which he adlibbed also appears after the end credits.

  • Gene Simmons has a cameo as the radio DJ, Nuke. He did so as a way to pay tribute to his idol Wolfman Jack. He actually passed on playing the role of Sammi Curr.

  • The hellhound Skeezix was made by FX guru Kevin Yagher who also worked on Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) and Chucky in the "Child's Play" films

  • Directed by Charles Martin Smith, most know as an actor in American Graffiti and The Untouchables – but also directed Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Welcome to the Hellmouth (1997) Air Bud (1997)

Wastelands Radio Show - Episode 15 – Metalsploitation - Hard Rock Zombies

WASTELANDS - An Australian B-grade, Punk Rock, Street Trash online radio show exploring the vast undiscovered cultural wastelands as a creative pursuit. Hosted by long time partners in slime Adam (085c3n3) Obscene and Mark-O -Mark, pondering punk oddities, trashy treasures, street levelness, life, culture and stuff.

Episode 15 hardrock zombies.jpg

Episode 15

Metalsploitation - hard Rock Zombies

In this episode Adam and Mark rip through their next Metalsploitation instalment -the video nasty Hard Rock Zombies. This distasteful horror comedy rock musical entry to the sub-genre features hicks, rubes, werewolves, murderous dwarves, sex perverts, and Hitler and that’s all in the first 10 minutes.

In the 80’s, rock music and horror movies went together like acid washed jeans and feathered hair. The trouble is, even though many horror movies had awesome rock soundtracks, the movies that specifically featured rock musician characters as heroes or villains varied wildly in quality. Although the rock horror movie has mostly gone the way of the 80’s, I’m not sure any other type of music will ever have such a successful love affair with horror.

HARD-ROCK-ZOMBIES.jpg

A nameless hard rock band who for some reason have the key broadest from Kraftwerk whose music can raise the dead, travel to that town out of footloose for an auditions with a big record executive, unfortunately Hitler now lives there and they fall prey to his entourage of mutant dwarfs, a flick knife wielding werewolf, a maniac with a wiper sniper and blonde sexy psychopath. They are then resurrected by a 14 year old groupie by who plays one of their songs at their graves the lyrics of which were taken from the Necronomicon and they take undead revenge on their killers

That takes us to the half way point after which it starts to get weird. Actually it doesn’t get any weirder, that would be impossible. It just becomes less coherent.

The first part is mental but at least it makes sense in the context of the movie- the band arrives in town, gets murdered, is resurrected and takes revenge. That’s a complete story – problem is there is still 45 minutes to go.

So the bad guys now get back up again as undead ghouls and attack the town. While the zombie band go through with their audition. It’s important that the audition is there it kinda ties things up but the rest is hilariously pointless and it really leads to some very very strange places.

HARD-ROCK-ZOMBIES vhs cover.jpg

Highlights / Lowlights

The film starts off promisingly, quickly scoring points for gratuitous use of both nudity and dwarfs,

But rapidly becomes a jaw-dropping bad mish-mash of musical interludes and inept gore (courtesy of FX man John Carl Buechler),

Interspersed with moments of complete insanity: an old man (later to be revealed as Hitler) his wife; the old lady turns into a werewolf;

The hitch-hiker dances by herself for no reason in the desert;

One dwarf eats himself;

The band survives an electrocution while practising; and one guy momentarily avoids being eaten by pretending to be a zombie (beating Shaun of the Dead to the joke by a couple of decades).

Wastelands Radio Show Ep 14 - - Jon Mikl Thor - Rock n Roll Nightmare LISTEN.jpg

Episode 14

Jon Mikl Thor - Rock n Roll Nightmare

In this episode Adam and Mark kick of their three part discussion on the topic of 80s metal/ rock horror movies, or Metalploitation. First Cab of the rank is the 80’s Canadian god of hair metal and champion body builder Jon Mikl Thor and his Self-produced disaster-piece Rock’ N Roll Nightmare from 1987.

Back in the 70’s JMT was a very successful athlete, as a bodybuilder, he was the first Canadian to win both the Mr. Canada and Mr. USA titles. During his bodybuilding career, he has achieved over 40 titles around the world.

If this wasn’t weird enough as a musician, he fronted the heavy metal band Thor, billing himself as "The Legendary Rock Warrior". JMT started touring in 1973. The band was first known as "Mikl Body Rock" and "Thor and the Imps" before deciding on the name THOR.

He combined strength feats, props, costumes and showmanship with music such as bending solid steel bars in his teeth and having solid concrete blocks smashed off his chest with a sledgehammer. THOR toured Canada and the USA throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

If the idea of a bodybuilding metal lord still isn’t enough for you, In 1986 JMT retired from live performances and started to write and produce films.

In the 80’s metal and horror went together like acid washed jeans and feathered hair. The trouble was, even though many horror movies had awesome rock soundtracks, the movies that specifically featured rock musician characters as heroes or villains varied wildly in quality and generally resulted in outcomes that were so bad they were good and often unintentionally funny. This is definitely the case with Rock n Roll Nightmare.

In Rock n Roll Nightmare an 80's metal band go to an old house to record an album. It's possessed, and demons that strangely enough resemble drug addicted gutter muppets start killing people. In between death scenes the band rocks out and washes a lot of dishes.

rock-n-roll-nightmare-poster.jpg

Thor himself wrote and produced the film and soundtrack. That's really all you need to know, because nothing else in the movie makes a lick of sense. The direction, acting, special effects, and script are absolute hilarious pieces of trash.

That's what allows Thor's stage presence to really shine. It's really just a long music-video that has a horror story thrown in. The music is classic, if you like that style, and if you don't you shouldn't be watching it in the first place.. If you love comic books, glam metal, and mythology and your movies with more cheese than a triple cheese hamburger pizza this is the crown-jewel of entertainment. An absurd good time!!

Punks Noot Dead - The Exploited

WASTELANDS - An Australian B-grade, Punk Rock, Street Trash online radio show exploring the vast undiscovered cultural wastelands as a creative pursuit. Hosted by long time partners in slime Adam (085c3n3) Obscene and Mark-O-Mark, pondering punk oddities, trashy treasures, street levelness, life, culture and stuff.

A-262795-1442765482-4193.jpeg.jpg

In this episode Adam and Mark decide to ponder some of their favourite punk bands. First cab off the ranks is legendary Mohawk punkers, The Exploited. Listen as they go all fanboy and discuss most things fact and fiction as well as their favourite Exploited Albums, Songs and moments.

The Exploited is a Scottish hard-core punk band from Edinburgh, Scotland, formed in 1979 by Stevie Ross and Terry Buchan and later joined by his brother Wattie Buchan. They signed to Secret Records in March 1981, and their debut EP Army Life and debut album Punks Not Dead were both released that year. The band maintained a large cult following in the 1980s among a hard-core working class punk and skinhead audience. Although The Exploited continues to perform live, they have not released any studio material since their last album Fuck the System in 2002.

Their songs have been covered by Slayer and Ice-T, and despite many line-up changes, Wattie has remained as the Exploited’s singer and leader. The Exploited are one of the iconic bands of the UK 82 punk movement along with, GBH and Discharge. The term "UK 82" came from The Exploited's song "UK82". UK 82 (also known as UK hardcore, second wave punk or No Future punk) took the existing punk sound and added the incessant, heavy drumbeats and distorted guitar sound of Motörhead. The term UK 82 is taken from the title of a song by The Exploited. Cross-pollination existed between this era of British street punk and American hardcore punk. The lyrics of UK 82 bands tended to be much darker and more violent than the lyrics of earlier punk bands. They tended to focus on the possibilities of a nuclear holocaust, and other apocalyptic themes, partially due to the military tension of the Cold War atmosphere. The other mainstay of the lyrics of the era was unemployment, and the policies of the Conservative Party government. Lyrics frequently denounced the Conservative leader Margaret Thatcher in the same way that American hardcore punk bands addressed the Ronald Reagan administration. AllMusic described The Exploited as "one of most riveting British punk rock units of the early 1980..

The Exploited ON TOUR - Thursday Dec10 2015. Venue - The Zoo, Fortitude Valley,Brisbane, Australia. Supporting Artist - The Scam / Plan of Attack / The F1-Elevens.

As the clock hit 10.30pm, the Scottish madmen commenced the evening’s craziness with Let’s Start a War, followed by Fightback, and Dogs of War.  Having suffered a heart attack onstage in Portugal at the beginning of 2014 showed no signs of slowing down. In fact, the renowned anarchist couldn’t even hide a few cheeky grins throughout the set to show he was having a good time during their first stop of the Aussie tour. This current member line-up of The Exploited is by far the sturdiest and tightest over the bands entire career. Matt McGuire’s axe work adds a more metal edge to the songs, while Irish Rob directed all of his energy into punishing the bass and swinging around his massive mop of dreads. The twenty plus song set list weighed heavily on the Fuck the System, Punk’s Not Dead, and Troops of Tomorrow albums, but not forgetting to throw in some other belters such as Beat the Bastards, and Porno Slut. Sex and Violence gave the opportunity for one lucky punter to test out his pipes while Wattie took a short break before returning for Maggie and the punk classic Punk’s Not Dead. As this hot and muggy night drew to a close, Was It Me wrapped up an absolutely superb Thursday evening out on the town. These punks might be older, but they are far from dead. Great stuff!

Video Nasty - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

In this episode Adam and Mark discuss Tobe Hoopers legendary 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This episode is the third in series of micro shows that dive into the three Video nasties that formed the basis of their 25 year friendship.

TMC poster.jpg

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a 1974 American slasher film directed by Tobe Hooper  (Poltergeist – 1982, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2 1986, the Mangler – 1995, Life-force - 1985) and written and co-produced by Hooper and Kim Henkel. Starring - Marilyn Burns - Sally Hardesty, (Helter Skelter Linda Kasabian -1976, The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Patient on Gurney- 1994, Texas Chainsaw 3D - Verna / Sally Hardesty - 2013), Paul A. Partain - Franklin Hardesty, (The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Hospital Orderly - 1994, Rolling Thunder - Brother-in-Law -1977), Edwin Neal- the hitchhiker, (Future Kill - Splatter – 1985, Zombiegeddon (TROMA) - God – 2003), Jim Siedow - the proprietor, (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - Drayton Sawyer - The Cook -1986), and Gunnar Hansen - Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw 3D - Boss Sawyer 2013, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers - The Stranger – 1988, Hellblock 13 - The Executioner – 1999).

Plot - Five teenagers vs a cannibalistic Texan family of chainsaw loving psychopaths

When Sally (Marilyn Burns) hears that her grandfather's grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin (Paul A. Partain), set out with their friends to investigate. After a detour to their family's old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door. As the group is attacked one by one by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), who wears a mask of human skin, the survivors must do everything they can to escape.

The film was marketed as being based on true events to attract a wider audience and to act as a subtle commentary on the era's political climate; although the character of Leatherface and minor story details were inspired by the crimes of murderer Ed Gein, its plot is largely fictional.

Mark-O-Mark’s Picks

Episode 05 Pick Your Kings

In this episode Adam and Mark discuss Mark's top five Stephen King novels and movie adaptions. Featuring a conversation focusing on his formative viewing habits and reviews on Salem’s Lot(1975), Thinner (1985), It (1986), Carrie (1974) and Pet Sematary (1983).

Salem’s Lot - Suburban vampire creepers! Writer named Ben Mears who returns to the town of Jerusalem's Lot (or 'Salem's Lot for short) in Maine, where he had lived from the age of five through nine, only to discover that the residents are becoming vampires

Novel – 1975 -It was his second published novel. In 1987 he told Phil Konstantin in The Highway Patrolman magazine: "In a way it is my favourite story, mostly because of what it says about small towns. They are kind of a dying organism right now. The story seems sort of down home to me. I have a special cold spot in my heart for it!"

Film – 1979- Director - Tobe Hooper -Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974, Poltergeist 1982, Crocodile 2000. Starring -David Soul - Ben Mears - Starsky and Hutch - Det Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson 1975-1979. James Mason – Straker 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Captain Nemo 1954, Stanley Kubrick's Lolita Prof. Humbert 1962. Salem's Lot (also known as Salem's Lot: The Movie, Salem's Lot: The Miniseries and Blood Thirst) is a 1979 American miniseries television adaptation of the horror novel of the same name by Stephen King. Directed by Tobe Hooper and starring David Soul and James Mason. Salem's Lot combines elements of both the vampire film and haunted house subgenres of horror.

Thinner - Fake latex fat suit businessman with a gypsy curse. Obese Billy Halleck (Robert John Burke) accidentally runs over and kills a gypsy woman; he uses his court connections to get off the hook. The woman's elderly father takes revenge by placing a curse upon Halleck, one that soon has him uncontrollably losing weight to the point of emaciation.

Novel – 1984.Thinner is a 1984 novel by Stephen King, published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. It was the last novel King released under the Richard Bachman pseudonym until the release of The Regulators in 1996, and the last released prior to Bachman being outed as being Stephen King's pseudonym. The initial hardcover release of Thinner included a fake jacket photo of "Bachman". The photo is claimed to have been taken by Claudia Inez Bachman. The actual subject of the photo is Richard Manuel, the insurance agent of Kirby McCauley, who was King's literary agent.

Film – 1996. Director - Tom Holland -Fright Night -1985, Child's Play 1988. Starring - Robert John Burke - Billy Halleck - RoboCop 3 – RoboCop 1993. A fully committed, even compelling performance by Robert John Burke can’t save this picture from itself. Hilarious cartoonish makeup and anaemically written characters are among the critical flaws in this tale of an overweight lawyer haunted by a Gypsy curse. The tone here bears similarity to the Goosebumps TV show that was popular at the time—only less scary.

It - Crazy ass demon gutter clown. A predatory monster which has the ability to transform itself into its prey's worst fears, allowing it to exploit the phobias of its victims. It mostly takes the humanoid form of a vicious but darkly comedic clown called Pennywise.

Novel – 1986 King’s 22nd book, and his 17th novel written under his own name. The story follows the experiences of seven children as they are terrorized by an evil entity that exploits the fears of its victims to disguise itself while hunting its prey. "It" primarily appears in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown to attract its preferred prey of young children.

Film – Original 1990. Director - Tommy Lee Wallace - Halloween III: Season of the Witch 1982, Fright Night Part 2 1988. Starring - Tim Curry – Pennywise - The Rocky Horror Picture Show- Dr. Frank-N-Furter 1975. The story revolves around The protagonists are The Lucky Seven, or The Losers Club, a group of outcast kids who discover Pennywise and vow to kill him by any means necessary. The series takes place over two different time periods, the first when the Losers first confront Pennywise as children in 1960, and the second when they return as adults in 1990 to defeat him a second time after he resurfaces.

Carrie - High-school bullying and psychokinetic wrath Carrie White, an unpopular friendless misfit and bullied high-school girl who uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to exact revenge on those who torment her

Novel – 1974. King’s his first published novel, released on April 5, 1974, with an approximate first print-run of 30,000 copies. King has commented that he finds the work to be "raw" and "with a surprising power to hurt and horrify." It is one of the most frequently banned books in United States schools.[

Film – 1976. Director - Brian De Palma - The Untouchables 1987. Starring - Sissy Spacek – Carrie White  - Coal Miner's Daughter - Loretta Lynn 1980. Piper Laurie – Marget White - The Faculty - Mrs. Karen Olson 1998, Twin Peaks Catherine Martell / Mr. Tojamura 1989-1991. John Travolta – Billy  - Pulp Fiction- Vincent Vega 1994. For its first hour, Carrie is a deliriously entertaining, rising-star-studded tragicomedy. Then the prom scene hits—it will still make your blood run cold. Star Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, who plays Carrie’s violently fanatical mother, were both nominated for Oscars, an unprecedented feat for a horror movie.

Pet Sematary -Undead pets and children sometimes come back……..Sometimes. The downward spiral of a family rocked by tragedy who go to supernatural lengths to reconnect with dead loved ones

Novel – 1983. In 1979, King was a "writer-in-residence" at the University of Maine and the house he was renting was adjacent to a major road where dogs and cats were often killed by oncoming trucks. He decided to write a book based on these ideas, and that the book would be a re-telling of "The Monkey's Paw" (1902), a short story by W. W. Jacobs about parents whose son resurrects after they wish for that to happen. King has gone on record stating that of all the novels he has written, Pet Sematary is the one which genuinely scared him the most.

Film – 1989/2019 - Director - Mary Lambert - Mötley Crüe: Without You, Mötley Crüe: Without You, Janet Jackson: Nasty, Control, Madonna: Material Girl. Starring - Dale Midkiff as Louis - The Crow: Salvation - Vincent 2000. Fred Gwynne as Jud -The Munsters - Herman Munster 1964-2004. Funnier and slightly campier than you'd expect. It goes deep on afterlife themes, there are plenty of freaky moments, and scene-stealing Church is the coolest resurrected cat of all time. The Ramones recorded a song of the same name as the theme for the 1989 film adaptation. It appeared on their album Brain Drain. It was later covered by the band Starcrawler for the 2019 film.

Episode 05 – Pick Your King Part 1

Adam 085c3n3’s Picks

In this episode Adam and Mark discuss Adam’s top five movies adapted from Stephen King stories. Almost as long as that legendary master of horror Stephen King has been keeping book lovers up at night, filmmakers have been adapting his books, for decades now. Which means there have been some classics and some clunkers. Featuring a rambling conversation focusing on his formative viewing habits and pondering on Children of the Corn (1984), The Mangler (1995), Maximum Overdrive (1986), The Running Man (1987) and Sleepwalkers (1992).

Children of the Corn - A pagan cult of killer kids … Ban this sickle filth! King’s unsettling short story about a pagan cult of killer kids was originally published in Penthouse in 1977 and has so far inspired 10 screen adaptations.

The Mangler - A demon possessed laundry press is depressing. It was meant to be a horror heavyweight’s team-up for the ages: writer King, director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) and Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund — but The Mangler is about an evil laundry press and nothing could have made it work.

Novel – 1972 issue of Cavalier magazine, and later collected in King's 1978 collection Night Shift. Film – 1995. Director - Tobe Hooper -Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974, Poltergeist 1982, Crocodile 2000.Starring- Robert Englund – Bill Gartley laundry owner - Nightmare on Elm Street – Freddy Krueger Strippers vs. Werewolves - Tapper 2012, Zombie Strippers! -  Ian 2008. Maximum Overdrive - Try to survive when homicidal machines become alive - so-bad-it’s-so-good. Stephen King – that great chronicler of retro Americana – somehow made the perfect drive-in movie in his sole directorial effort: a silly, slapdash nightmare of murderous vehicles and appliances attacking hysterical patrons (including a bewildered Emilio Estevez) at a truck stop called the Dixie Boy.

Novel – Trucks" is a short story by Stephen King, first published in the June 1973 issue of Cavalier magazine, and later collected in King's 1978 collection Night Shift. Film – 1986. Director - Stephen King. Starring - Emilio Estevez – Bill - Repoman – Otto 1984, The Breakfast Club - Andrew Clark 1985, St. Elmo ’s fire - Kirby Keger 1985. Pat Hingle – Hendershot - Batman - Commissioner Gordon 1989, Hang ‘Em High - Judge Fenton 1968, Muppets form Space – General Luft 1999

The Running Man - Ladies  & Gentlemen, if you just bear with us, we are experiencing technical difficulties. The story is set in a dystopian United States between 2017 and 2019, is about a television show called The Running Man, where convicted criminal "runners" must escape death at the hands of professional killers.

Novel – First published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982 as a paperback original. Film – 1987. Director - Paul Michael Glaser - Kazaam 1996, Starsky and HutchDet. Dave Starsky 1975-1979. Peter Newkirk / Papa Bear 1965-1971.

Sleepwalkers - Werecats probably seemed like a good idea in a horror movie? No doubt the finest unintentional comedy on this list, this feline-centric original is equal parts campy and icky, never scary or funny in a clever way.

Novel – not actually novel an adaption it’s a movie written by King 1992. Film – 1992. Directed - Mick Garris - Critters 2 1988, Psycho 4: The Beginning 1990. Starring - Brian Krause – Charles - Return to the Blue Lagoon - Richard Lestrange 1991, Camel Spiders - Captain Mike Sturges 2011. Wendy-O-Williams - Plasmatics

The Plasmatics were an American punk metal band formed by Yale University art school graduate Rod Swenson with Wendy O. Williams. The band was a controversial group known for wild live shows that broke countless taboos. In addition to chainsawing guitars, blowing up speaker cabinets and sledgehammering television sets, Williams and the Plasmatics blew up automobiles live on stage.

Plasmatics were masters of capturing a post apocalyptic vibe. The video for “The Damned” produced and directed by The video Rod, features Wendy driving a school bus through a wall of TVs, climbing onto the roof of a moving bus which had been loaded with explosives, and then singing from the roof and jumping off a few moments before the bus goes through the second wall of TVs and then blows sky high.

VIDEO Lands

For many, it was a sad thing to see the many Blockbuster Video stores sit vacant, run out of business by Netflix and other on-demand services.  However, although unfortunate for a fan of analogue, I never shed a tear.  I had lived through the early days of the video store, before Blockbuster came in and drove many of the independent movie rental shops out of business.  For me, Blockbuster, Video Ezy and the like ruined things.  They didn’t have the character and uniqueness of the small, independently owned video stores.  So, the sight of an old Blockbuster building converted to a Get Fit Quick gym didn’t inspire much wistful sentiment.

So, this gallery of memories isn’t about the days of Blockbuster which owned the early 2000’s and essentially all of the 1990’s.  This is about the days when the video recorder was new, and there was excitement in the air – you could actually select a movie to watch yourself!  We take it for granted now; however, up until then, you were at the mercy of what was at the cinema or drive in (if you had one in your town ) or what ever the 3 telly stations decided to throw your way. Now, the power was in your quaking hands.  Oh, the thrill of this new technology…. And oh, the disappointments….
